Nail Care Made Easy

Hand Grooming

Well-groomed hands play the part of an accessory similar to jewelry in your overall appearance. Chipped nails and raw or ragged cuticles take away from their beauty. Almost constantly in motion, your hands catch the eye of others. Beautiful hands are graceful hands.

First, you can keep your nails looking youthful by using lotion and cuticle oil. Our MiraCell Skin Relief & Support oil blend is a great for natural nail care and it will knit torn cuticles in seconds. MiraCell Hand and Foot Cream smooths and moisturizes dry rough hands quickly and puts a sheer protective layer to sustain those smoothing and moisturizing benefits. I keep a small bottle of Skin Relief and Support in my purse or pocket so I always have it for first aid hands and nail care.

Nail Care: Filing

Here’s a fun tip that tells you how to file your individual nails.  (The Beauty Code is all about your individuality. Specific to you, for you. Don’t you love it?)

File the tip of the nail similar to the shape of your nail at its base. For your best finger nail care, curve the nail tip gently, leaving the sides of the nail straight and thus strong.  Your nails grow in regular soft curved rows out from the nail bed.  When you break into those rows you weaken the sides of your nail and open the nail to tearing or splitting apart. You weaken your nails most if you file them down to the cuticle at the sides.

When you leave the sides of the nail strong and then apply nail color, the polish tightens the nail, curving it gently so the nail looks thinner, beautifully rounded, and more natural.  The curve at the tip is rounded perfectly. This fun fact makes me smile.

To file, move the file from each side toward the center.  Avoid a zigzag motion across the top of the nail.  Nails just slightly longer than the tip of your finger are attractive and easy to care for.  However, nail length is a balancing factor.  Nail length can make short fingers look longer.  I find women like the length of nails that brings their finger length to ideal balance.  This inner awareness of personal balance still amazes me.  It’s so consistent with clients.

Remember, though, that your toe nail care is just as important as your finger nail care. Use these same methods when filing your toe nails and you should avoid having painful ingrown toe nails.

Nail Care: Repairing

What to Do If Your Nails Crack and Peel

For natural nail care in the instance of cracking and peeling, first, use more absorbent protein. If you have a hard time digesting meats, add unflavored gelatin to your diet. Put it in a smoothie. Try a diet that contains an apple, a carrot, a stalk of celery, whole grains, dark green lettuces, and spinach. Use coral calcium and (I double) the recommended dose of Vitamin D. I also use magnesium. As well, daily, I apply MiraCell Skin Relief and Support because it strengthens both my nails and cuticles.

In order to truly have a complete, professional look, finger nail care is essential. Our hands should match our general appearance in looking well groomed and cared for. For suggestions on nail color, see our article Nail Color.
